SKIN CARE

The right skincare products can actually make the biggest difference to reverse the signs of ageing. It can make a much bigger difference to your skin over time than laser, peels and facials. It can also dramatically prevent and slow any further ageing from occurring.

Your skin care must have the correct active ingredients for your skin type as recommended by a doctor with dermatological experience.

Expensive products from well known brands act purely as basic moisturizers for your skin. Even most of the products from very expensive Cosmedical brands, although they contain the correct ingredients (eg retinol or vitamin C), are not in the correct formulations and preparations, and are actually no longer active by the time you put them on your skin.  It is very expensive and difficult to keep the active ingredients stable.

All of the skin care products that our doctor at Doctor Finesse will recommend contain highly pure, high strength active ingredients.

They are in the correct formulations and using the correct compound of the active ingredient, that they maintain the highest level activity, and have the maximum benefit on your skin.

  • Created by a team of doctors and dermatologists

1 - Sunscreen

Broadspectrum SPF 30+ or 50+

Sunscreen is the single most important anti-ageing product you should be using every single day.

Photoageing and photodamage (skin damage due to sun exposure) is the main factor causing skin ageing in Australia. It causes fine & coarse skin wrinkles, skin roughness, freckles and brown spots, reduced skin elasticity.

You must use broadspectrum SPF 30+ or 50+ or higher.

Sunscreens absorb, scatter, or reflect ultraviolet radiation and visible light.
Zinc Oxide has by far the most extensive absorption spectrum of any sunscreen, and is the only agent that fully covers UVA and UVB

DON’T FORGET YOUR NECK/DECOLLETAGE AND BACK OF YOUR HANDS!!!!!

2 - Retinol

Also known as VITAMIN A.  Naturally present in your skin, but reduces with age.

Scientifically proven benefits:

  • Skin smoothing and tightening
  • Doubling of skin thickening and strengthening (increased collagen production)
  • Disappearance of fine lines
  • Significant reduction of deep lines and wrinkles
  • Fading of sunspots, freckles and hyperpigmentation
  • Reduced pore size
  • Also improves acne and multiple chronic other skin conditions

You will start to notice improvements in your skin after a few weeks.

You will notice your lines and wrinkles improve dramatically after 3-6 months.

The maximum effects and benefits are not until 8-12 months after you start treatment.

Retinol comes in 4 different forms each with different stability, activity and strength.  3 of these forms are mostly used in anti-ageing skincare.

1. Retinol

  • Weak
  • Contained in most cosmedical skin care
  • Minimal activity once applied to the skin

2. Retinaldehyde – used by Doctor Finesse

  • Stronger
  • High activity when applied to the skin
  • Minimal to no side-effects compared to Tretinoin (see below)

3. Tretinoin – prescribed by Doctor Finesse

  • Strongest
  • Amazing anti-ageing results
  • Lots of side-effects in the first 1-2 months

Tretinoin causes a dermatitis for the first 1-2 months.  This means dryness, redness, scaling.  It can be uncomfortable and unsightly.  Following this though, the anti-ageing results are amazing.

3 - Vitamin C

aka L-ascorbic acid, ascorbate

Potent antioxidant

Anti-oxidant means it reverses and prevents damage caused to cells by ageing, photodamage (sun) and other toxins from your body and externally.  It also protects from any further damage.

It makes your skin:

  • Rejuvenate
  • Brighter & clearer
  • Firm
  • Reactivates Luminosity
  • Reduces lines and wrinkles,
  • Reduces discolouration age spots
  • Increased collagen synthesis
  • Increased skin healing and immunity
  • Repairs cellular DNA damage

4 - Vitamin E

Strong anti-oxidant. It has all of the same benefits VITAMIN C.

Combined with Vitamin C, it has double the benefits.

5 - Niacinamide

aka Vitamin B3

  • Restores luminosity and target pigmentation
  • Boosts skin immunity
  • Reduces skin inflammation & redness
  • Improves skin barrier function
  • Enhances the solarprotective effect of your sunscreen

6 - Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid

Glycolic acid and lactic acid are naturally occurring fruit acids.

They work by binding water to the thick outer surface layer of the skin (stratum corneum) as well as gently removing any dead skin cells, thus allowing even further hydration.

  • Skin plumping and firming
  • Skin smoothing
  • Instant resurfacing and perfecting
  • Enhancing radiance, firmness, hydration and clarity
  • Smoother, softer and clearer
  • Instant luminosity

7 - Hyaluronic Acid

Increases water binding and hydration in the most important deep layer of the skin (the basement membrane).  Hyaluronic acid is already naturally present in this layer, but applying it to the skin increases the amount of hyaluronic acid in this deep layer, therefore increasing its water binding and hydrating, and plumping and firming the skin.

Hyaluronic Acid is also what most modern fillers are made out of.  In the case of fillers, they attract water and massively increase the volume under the skin where they are injected, but also improve the hydration plumpness and firmness of the overlying skin.  We do not yet fully understand the scientific mechanism behind this, but we know it happens!

  • Skin plumping and firming
  • Skin hydration
  • Enhancing radiance, firmness, hydration

8 - Peptides

Amino acids to repair, refine and reactivate vital skin enzymes.

  • Skin smoothing
  • Skin softening
  • Hydrating
  • Luminating
